Stefanescu Diana - Writer / Director
Hello my fellow Cinephiles,
I shall begin by welcoming you to my website and thank you for taking the time to be here. The following are a few select words of my personal journey and insight into the eclectic world of filmmaking process.
My story
My name is Diana Andreea Stefanescu and I was born during the fabulous 1980s, a groundbreaking era for cinema. Originally from the beautiful city of Iasi, Romania, my work has taken me all over the world. I am now based in Montreal, Canada, where international productions congregate. My youth was immersed in limitless volumes of books. My grandfather, Boris Craciun, owned a publishing firm. He was my mentor, whose career as an author earned my everlasting admiration. Everything I know about writing is because of him. He laid the foundation of who I am today. Wanting me to take over the publishing firm was not enough. Life is much more than the content of a hard cover novel. The intriguing characters are flesh and bone just waiting to be awakened, hence I resolved to take advantage of the artistic fundamentals I inherited from my family, and enrolled in The Danish Film Institute. I took part in all kinds of directing workshops there and anywhere that could teach me how to visually present my stories. There were dozens of film sets I found myself on for experience, all the while producing my own projects. I wrote, produced and directed incessantly. There is nothing in this world that makes me more happy than being a filmmaker. Nothing.
Let me share with you an important moment, when an old Danish man, whom I admire deeply, once shared with me an observation he had made throughout a lifetime of adventures: people only reveal twenty percent of their true emotions due to a fear of being judged by society. Human beings are better at reading each other’s feelings more than they realize, in part due to the habit of hiding one’s own sentiments. It is through my writing and directing that I express my most intimate thoughts to the public without any fear of judgement. I voluntarily choose to live in such a dimension of perspective. Over the past several years, I became fascinated with the idea of exposing personal truth through extensive dialogue and emotional analysis, replete with all the consequences to our individual evolution and psychology. The raw reality of being directly open. I have always undertaken this métier from the most honest and sincere point of view, in order for my audience to better understand where I’m coming from.
With the ever expanding cinematic industry, I am able to further my most profound inner thoughts, without fear of retribution. The plot, the characters, the setting, and the timeline are all there for the viewer’s analysis and input. There is nothing that shall hinder my displaying the art I seek to create, for this is part of my lifelong healing process.
